National Coordinated Varietal trials (NCVT) for Cotton in Pakistan During 2020

Abstract


National Coordinated Varietal trials (NCVT) for cotton are conducted by the Directorate of Agricultural Research, PCCC with the objective of testing promising breeding material/strains developed by various cotton breeders of Federal and Provincial institutes as well as private sector seed companies for adaptability under various soil and agro-climatic conditions of different ecological zones under the supervision which are entrusted with the task of research on cotton varieties in the country prior to their approval for general cultivation. During 2020-21 four (4) set of trials (Set-A, Set-B, Set-C, Set-D) were conducted at 15 different locations to test 85 candidate varieties (45 from Public sector breeders and 40 from Private sector breeders). 38 varieties were tested for lst year while 46 varieties were in 2nd year trial and 1 variety was in 3rd year trial.
